The Date and time steps change dates without a Code step: show 2026-10-02T09:30:00Z as 2 October 2026, work out a due date 14 days from today, count the days since an invoice was sent, or find the Monday that starts this week. Each one is its own step, and each works in a time zone you choose — the workflow's, unless you change it. No connection is needed.

The steps

Step What it does Result
Format a date Writes a date the way you choose. ISO · 2026-10-02 (the default), 2 October 2026, October 2, 2026, Day first · 02/10/2026, Month first · 10/02/2026, Unix seconds, or Custom pattern. Text (a number for Unix seconds)
Add to or subtract from a date Moves a date forward or back by an Amount of Minutes, Hours, Days, Weeks, Months or Years. A date
Get the time between two dates Counts the days, hours or months from one date to another — from From to To, in the Unit you choose. A number
Round a date Moves a date to the start of its day, week, month or year. A date
Get the current date and time Puts now on the item, in a time zone. A date
Read a date from text Turns a date written as text into a date later steps can use, by Detect, Day first, Month first or a Custom pattern. A date
Get part of a date Gives the weekday, month, year, week number or another part. Text or a number

Steps

  1. Select + where the date is needed. In the step picker, open Utilities, select Date and time — No connection needed — then the step. Or search date.
  2. Put in the date — in Date, or From and To for Get the time between two dates, or Text for Read a date from text. Type it, drag it in from Data from earlier steps, or use {{ }}, such as {{ $json.invoice_date }}. Get the current date and time has no date to fill in.
  3. Fill in the step's own settings:
    • Format a date — Format. With Custom pattern, write the Pattern: dd day, MMM month name, MM month, yyyy year, HH hour, mm minutes — dd MMM yyyy, HH:mm gives 16 Oct 2026, 09:30.
    • Add to or subtract from a date — Amount and Unit (Days by default). A minus sign goes back — -3.
    • Get the time between two dates — Unit (Days by default), and Include part units: On: 2.5 days. Off: whole units only — 2.
    • Round a date — Start of: Day, Week, Month or Year. For Week, Week starts on Monday (the default) or Sunday.
    • Read a date from text — Format: Detect (the default), Day first · 02/10/2026, Month first · 10/02/2026 or Custom pattern, with the Pattern the text uses, such as dd.MM.yyyy.
    • Get part of a date — Part: Weekday · Friday (the default), Day of the month, Month name · October, Month number, Year, Week number, Quarter or Hour.
  4. In Time zone, keep the workflow's zone, or choose another — for example United Kingdom · London for a customer in the UK. For Read a date from text, the zone is used only for a date written without one.
  5. In Put the result in, keep the field name the step suggests or type your own. The item's other fields are kept.
  6. Select Run this step, then check Output.

Output

Each item comes out with the result added under the field you named — by default date (difference for Get the time between two dates, part for Get part of a date). Every other field on the item is kept; a field already called that is replaced.

A date the step returns is in ISO 8601 with the zone's offset, such as 2026-10-16T00:00:00+01:00, so a later Format a date or another app reads it without guessing. Format a date gives text, or a number with Unix seconds. Get part of a date gives the weekday and month name as text — Friday, October — and every other part as a number.

Good to know

  • The dates these steps read. An ISO date, with or without a time and an offset (2026-10-02, 2026-10-02T09:30:00Z); a date with the month written out in English (2 October 2026, Oct 2, 2026); or Unix seconds or milliseconds. A date with no offset is read in Time zone. Anything else — 02/10/2026, for example — needs Read a date from text first.
  • Detect reads only dates that cannot be mistaken. 02/10/2026 could be 2 October or 10 February, so Detect refuses it and stops with a message; choose Day first or Month first in Format instead. Those read /, - or . between the parts and a four-digit year — and, with /, a two-digit year or a time such as 14:30 after the date.
  • Use two steps for a readable due date: Add to or subtract from a date (14 days), then Format a date (16 October 2026).
  • Months are counted by the calendar. Adding one month to 31 January gives 28 February (29 in a leap year), not 3 March. Months and years are added in whole numbers only.
  • Time zones follow daylight saving. Adding days, weeks, months or years across a clock change keeps the same time of day; minutes and hours are exact time.
  • The difference is whole units, the part left over dropped, unless you turn on Include part units — then 36 hours is 1.5 days, to two decimal places. When To is before From, the number is negative.
  • Week number is the ISO week, which starts on a Monday. Month and weekday names are written in English.
  • It runs once per item, so each order or invoice gets its own result.

If something goes wrong

What the run says Why What to do
Date is empty when the step ran — an earlier step may not have given the value it names. (or From, To, Text, Amount) The box names a value the item does not have. Check the step's Input; correct the value in {{ }}.
Date “…” is not a date this step can read. Use an ISO date (2026-10-16), a date with the month written out (16 October 2026), or Read a date from text first. (or From, To) The value is in a form only Read a date from text can read, such as 02/10/2026. Add Read a date from text before this step and use its date.
“…” could be read two ways — day first or month first. Choose Day first or Month first in Format. Detect met a date such as 02/10/2026. Choose Day first or Month first.
“…” is not a date this step can read. Choose its pattern in Format. Detect could not read the text at all. Choose Day first, Month first or Custom pattern.
“…” is not a date written day first. / … month first. The text does not follow the order chosen in Format. Check the text, or choose the other order.
“…” does not match the pattern …. The text is not written as Pattern says. Correct Pattern to match the text exactly.
Pattern is empty. Write one, such as dd MMM yyyy, HH:mm. / Pattern is empty. Write the pattern the text uses, such as dd.MM.yyyy. Custom pattern is chosen with no Pattern. Write the pattern, or choose a preset.
Pattern “…” is not one this step can write. Use letters such as dd, MMM, yyyy, HH and mm. The pattern cannot be written as a date. Use the letters in the help under the box, or a preset.
Amount “…” is not a number. Use a minus sign to go back — -3. Amount is not a number. Put a number in Amount.
Months and years are added in whole numbers; … is not one. Amount has a fraction with Months or Years. Use a whole number, or a smaller unit.
… is not a time zone Bizomate knows. Choose one from the list. Time zone holds a name Bizomate does not recognise. Choose a zone from the list.
