Two Google Sheets steps change a row you have found: Update a row — Changes the columns you map in one row — and Delete a row — Removes one row; the rows below move up. Both need the row's number.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.

Before you start

Steps

Update a row:

  1. Select +, then in Apps select Google Sheets, then Update a row.
  2. Choose the Connection, the Spreadsheet and the Sheet.
  3. In Row number, the row — The rowNumber from Find a row or Get rows. — such as {{ steps.find_a_row.rowNumber }}.
  4. Under Columns, fill in only the columns to change. Only the columns you fill in change.

Delete a row:

  1. Select +, then Google Sheets, then Delete a row.
  2. Choose the Connection, the Spreadsheet and the Sheet.
  3. In Row number, the row — The rowNumber from Find a row or Get rows. The rows below move up.

Output

Update a row: rowNumber, and each column changed with its new value.

Delete a row: rowNumber and deleted (true).

Good to know

  • Row 1 is the headings, so the smallest row number is 2.
  • Deleting moves the rows below up, so their numbers change. Deleting several rows found in one go goes wrong after the first — delete from the bottom up, or use a list instead.
  • Values are entered as if typed, as in Add a row.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Row number "1" is not a row below the headings — use the rowNumber Get rows or Find a row gives. The number is the heading row, not a number, or empty. Use rowNumber from Find a row or Get rows.
No column has a value — map the ones to change. Nothing to change. Fill in at least one column.
The spreadsheet has no sheet named Orders any more. Choose it again. The tab was renamed or deleted. Choose the sheet again.
Google Sheets refused: … Google refused the change. Read the reason; check the sheet is still shared.
