A copy is a new workflow with the same steps and settings. It starts as a draft, whatever the original is, so nothing runs until someone publishes it. Use it to try a change without touching the live workflow, or to start a similar one.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors. Viewers do not see Make a copy.
Steps
- Select Workflows in the bar at the top of the page.
- On the workflow's row, select Make a copy (the two squares).
- The dialog Copy “…” says The copy starts as a draft, whatever the original is.
- If the workspace has projects, choose one in Into project, or Ungrouped. It starts on the original's project.
- Choose whether to tick Copy version history. It is ticked to start with.
- Ticked: Every version comes across, keeping its number.
- Unticked: The copy starts at version 1 with only the current graph.
- Select Make a copy. The button reads Copying while it works.
A toast says Workflow copied — “… (copy)” was made as a draft.
What happens next
- The copy is called the original's name with (copy) after it, and appears on the Workflows list as NEVER PUBLISHED.
- It copies the draft as it stands — the steps, their settings, the connections they use and what each does if it fails.
- The original is not changed. It keeps running as before.
- The copy has no runs of its own yet.
Good to know
- With version history, the copy's versions are numbered as the original's, so "version 7" means the same in both. None of them counts as published in the copy.
- Without version history, the copy keeps only the latest draft, renumbered as version 1.
- Webhooks and forms get their own addresses. A copy of a webhook workflow is given a new address the first time someone who can edit opens it; it never shares the original's.
- To copy one step inside a workflow, see Rename, duplicate, skip or remove a step.
