Every publish keeps a version. Comparing draws one version on the canvas with each step marked ADDED, CHANGED or REMOVED against the live version or your draft, and lists the changes beside it with their settings before and after.

Who can do this

Everyone in the workspace can compare versions. Restoring one needs an Admin or Editor.

Steps

  1. Open the workflow in the designer.
  2. Select Versions at the top right. The menu lists every version kept, newest first:
    • The draft — Draft · not published, marked Editing.
    • Each published version — its note, or First published / Published — with when and by whom, such as 12 Sep, 16:40 · Asha Raghunathan. The live one is marked Live.
  3. Beside the version you want, select Compare.

The top bar becomes the compare bar, and the canvas shows the comparison.

  1. Read the changes:
    • The counts on the bar — ADDED 1, CHANGED 2, REMOVED 1 — or No changes.
    • The canvas: changed steps are marked, unchanged ones fade, and a removed step is a dashed outline where it was.
    • The Changes panel on the right: 3 between v3 and Live v4 · select one to see it. Select a changed step to see each setting, before and after. A setting with nothing in it reads empty.
  2. To compare with something else:
    • Choose another version in the list after Comparing.
    • Switch between Live v4 and Draft v5 after with.
  3. Select Back to the draft to return to editing.

What happens next

Nothing changes. While you compare, nothing can be edited and nothing is saved; your draft is set aside and comes back as it was.

Good to know

  • Compare starts against the live version when there is one and it is not the version chosen; otherwise against the draft.
  • Connections are shown by name. Connections are shown by name. Keys and passwords never are.
  • On a phone the comparison is the list of changes only: On a phone the comparison is the list of changes. Open it on a larger screen to see them on the graph.
  • How many versions are kept depends on the plan, and the menu says so — for example Starter keeps the last 10 versions. On Pro it is 100. The live version and the draft are always kept.
  • To bring an older version back, select Restore v3 on the compare bar. See Restore an earlier version.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Nothing different — v3 and Live v4 run the same steps with the same settings. The two versions are the same. Compare with the draft, or another version.
A version you expected is not in the menu The plan keeps only the latest versions; older ones were removed at publishing. Nothing to restore from. Export workflows regularly if you need a longer history.
Live v4 is greyed out on the compare bar You are already comparing the live version, or nothing is live. Compare with Draft instead.
