Merge — Bring a condition's paths back together — closes an IF's or a Switch's paths, so the steps after it run once the paths are done, with what they brought.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.

Before you start

The workflow needs an IF or a Switch with at least two paths that end without a merge.

Steps

  1. Select the + at the end of one of the condition's paths. In the step picker, open Logic and select Merge. (It is only offered there.)

The merge gathers every path of that condition that is still open — you do not wire lines by hand.

  2. Under Mode, choose:

    • Wait for all paths — Nothing carries on until every path that ran has finished. The default.
    • Combine by a matching field — Rows from two paths joined on a field you choose.
  3. For Combine by a matching field, type the field in Matching field, such as order_id. An item from path 1 takes the fields of the first item on each other path with the same value here.

  4. Read Coming in: each path by number, name and last step — 1 · Yes · Ask Rohan — with how many items it brought in the last test. Paths are numbered in the order they leave the condition, so “path 2” always means the same thing.

  5. Add the steps after the merge under it.

Output

  • Wait for all paths: every item from every path that ran, path 1's first, then path 2's.
  • Combine by a matching field: one item per item from path 1, each with the fields of the matching item on the other paths added. Fields path 1 already has are kept. An item with no match goes on as it was.

The card reads Merge · wait for all paths or Merge · by order_id.

Good to know

  • A path no item took does not hold the merge up. It waits only for the paths that ran.
  • Paths are numbered Yes then No, or a Switch's paths in their order then Everything else.
  • Removing the merge opens the paths again; what came after it carries on from path 1.
  • Removing the IF or Switch removes the merge with it.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Merge is not in the step picker The + is not at the end of a condition's open paths, or fewer than two paths are still open. Select the + at the end of a path that has no merge.
Needs setup: fill in matching field. / a run fails with Name the field to match on. Combine by a matching field has no field. Type the field.
Items are not combined The field's values differ between paths — 1001 and "1001" are different. Make the field the same type on both paths, for example with Set / Edit Fields.
