Microsoft Teams · Send a message to a channel — Posts to a channel in Microsoft Teams — posts a message from the Microsoft 365 account the connection signed in as.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.

Before you start

A Microsoft 365 connection in this workspace, signed in as someone who is in the team. The step needs permission to Post to Teams channels.

Steps

  1. Select + where the message should be posted. In the step picker, open Apps, select Microsoft Teams, then Send a message to a channel. Or search Teams.
  2. In Connection, choose your Microsoft 365 connection.
  3. In Team, choose the team — The teams you belong to. The list reads Loading your teams… first.
  4. In Channel, choose the channel — Its channels, private ones you are in included.
  5. In Message, type the message, with {{ }} for values from earlier steps.
  6. Select Run this step to post a test message.

To take the team or channel from an earlier step instead, select Use a value beside it and type {{ }}. Choose from the list goes back. A channel listed under a team that comes from a step comes from a step too.

Good to know

  • The message is plain text, posted as the connected account.
  • Choosing another team empties Channel.
  • Refresh reloads the list after you add a team or channel in Teams.
  • Runs once per item. Ten items post ten messages.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Needs permission to post to Teams channels The connection was made before this step asked for that permission. Select Reconnect. Microsoft shows its own screen, and everything set here is kept.
Nothing to pick — You are not in any team in this Microsoft 365 organisation. Join one in Teams, then Refresh. The account is in no team. Join a team, then Refresh.
This team has no channels you can see. Add one in Teams, then Refresh. No channel is visible to the account. Add or join a channel.
Could not load the teams Microsoft did not give the list. What you set here is kept. Try again, or Reconnect if offered.
This is no longer in the account's list. Choose again, or use a value from an earlier step. The team or channel was removed, or the account left it. Choose again.
Microsoft Teams refused: … The connection may need reconnecting, or lacks permission. Microsoft turned the post away. Reconnect, and check the account is in the channel.
Message is empty when the step ran — … The message came out empty. Check the values it reads.
