Each step's ⋮ menu holds the four things you do to a step as a whole. Select several steps at once to duplicate, skip or remove them together.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors. Viewers see no ⋮ on the cards.
Rename a step
- On the step's card, select ⋮, then Rename. Or select the step and change the name at the top of its settings.
- Type the new name — up to 80 characters.
- Press Enter. Esc keeps the old name.
A toast says Step renamed — Now called “…”. Later steps that read it still do.
Renaming never breaks a later step: values are read by the step's key, which was made from its first name and never changes.
Duplicate a step
- Select ⋮, then Duplicate. Or select the step and press Ctrl D.
The copy appears straight after the original, called … (copy). A toast says Step duplicated — “…” is straight after the original.
The copy has the same settings, connection and If this step fails choice. It does not have the original's pinned output.
Skip a step when the workflow runs
- Select ⋮, then Skip this step when the workflow runs.
A toast says Skipped — “…” will be passed over when the workflow runs. Nothing after it changes. The card turns grey with the Skipped badge.
To bring it back, select ⋮, then Run this step again. The toast says Back in — “…” will run again.
A skipped step is not run, in tests or live. What reached it goes straight on to the next step, and the run shows it as skipped with Marked to be skipped.
Remove a step
- Select ⋮, then Remove. Or select the step and press Delete.
An action goes at once: what came after it joins what came before. A toast says Step removed — “…” is gone from the draft.
A step that splits the workflow asks first, because what hangs off it goes too:
- IF: “…” splits the workflow in two, so both its paths — and their merge — go with it: 3 more steps. What comes after the merge stays.
- Switch: the same, for all its paths.
- Loop Over Items: The 2 steps it repeats go with “…”; what comes after it stays.
Select Remove 4 steps (the number is how many go) to go ahead. Each message ends Only the draft changes; what is live keeps running until you publish.
Several steps at once
- Hold Shift and select each step. A bar at the bottom says 3 steps selected.
- Select Duplicate, Skip or Remove. Each button shows only when it suits every selected step.
- Removing several asks first: Remove 5 steps?, with how many the paths of any conditions among them take too.
Select Esc to clear, or press Esc, to stop selecting.
Good to know
- Only actions can be duplicated or skipped — not the trigger, IF, Switch, Merge or Loop Over Items.
- The trigger cannot be removed while steps follow it. Change it instead — see Change how a workflow starts.
- Removing a Merge opens its paths again; what followed it carries on from the first path.
- A skipped paid step still counts. A skipped Code, HubSpot or Microsoft SQL step still needs a paid plan to publish, as it is one click from running.
- Undo (Ctrl Z) brings back anything removed.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not duplicated — Only actions can be duplicated — a trigger comes once, and a condition would need its paths too. | You tried to duplicate a trigger, condition, merge or loop. | Add a new one from the step picker instead. |
| Nothing to skip — Only actions can be skipped — not the trigger, and not a condition. | The same, for Skip. | Remove the step, or change its settings. |
| This workflow is at 20 steps | Duplicating would pass the plan's step limit. | Remove a step first, or move to a plan with a higher limit. |
