To change when a step runs, drag it to its new place. The steps either side of where it was join up, and it slots in where you drop it.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors.
Steps
- Open the workflow in the designer.
- Press and hold on the step's card, then drag it. A marker shows where it will land as you pass the lines and + places.
- Drop it on the line or + where it should run.
A toast says Step moved — “Send the invoice” now runs after “Get the order”. or … now runs on the Yes path of “Is it over ₹50,000?”.
What happens next
- The step keeps its settings, its connection and its name.
- Steps that read it still do, as long as they still come after it. A step that now runs before it has nothing from it yet — see Good to know.
- Only the draft changes. What is live keeps running until you publish.
Good to know
- Only actions move. The trigger is always first. A condition (IF, Switch) and a loop carry their paths with them, so they have no one place to leave a gap; to move one, remove it and add it again where you want it.
- Moving a step above one it reads from breaks that value. If Send the invoice uses
{{ steps.get_the_order.total }}and you move it above Get the order, the value is empty when it runs. Test the workflow after moving steps. - Undo (Ctrl Z) puts it back.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The card will not drag | It is the trigger, a condition or a loop, or you are a Viewer. | See Good to know. |
| Nothing changes when you drop | It landed where it already was. | Drop it on a different line or +. |
| A later test fails with … is empty when the step ran — an earlier step may not have given the value it names. | The step now runs before the step it reads from. | Move it back, or change the value it reads. |
