Filter — Keep some items — lets through only the items that meet its conditions. The rest stop here: not an error, and nothing after this step sees them.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.
Steps
- Select + where items should be filtered. In the step picker, open Logic and select Filter.
- Under Keep items where, choose all or any — of these are true.
- Fill in the condition row:
- The value to test — a value, or {{ from a step, such as
{{ $json.status }}. - How it compares: is, is not, contains, does not contain, is empty, is not empty, greater than, less than, at least, at most.
- What with — compared with. Not needed for is empty and is not empty.
- The value to test — a value, or {{ from a step, such as
- Select Add condition for more. Rows join with AND for all, OR for any.
- Test it. Under the conditions: Kept 12 of 40 on the last test.
How it compares
As IF does: numbers as numbers, dates as dates, text ignoring capitals. Greater than, less than, at least and at most compare as numbers, dates or text, by what they are given. A row with no value to test is passed over.
Output
The items that matched, unchanged. Fewer items out than in, never more.
Good to know
- Items that do not match stop here. They are not an error and nothing after this step sees them.
- To act on both the kept and the dropped items, use IF instead.
- If no item matches, nothing after the Filter runs, and the run still succeeds.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Add a condition. With none it keeps every item, the same as not having the step. | No condition has a value to test. | Add one, or remove the step. |
| Nothing after the Filter ran | No item matched. | Check the items on its Input tab against the conditions. |
