Outlook · Get an attachment — Brings an email's attachments in as files, one item each — takes the files attached to an email and keeps them with the run, so later steps can send them on, upload them or attach them elsewhere.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.
Before you start
- A Microsoft 365 connection allowed to Read and send mail.
- An earlier step that gives the email's id — Search emails, for example.
Steps
- Select +, then in Apps select Outlook, then Get an attachment.
- Choose the Connection.
- In Email, put the email's id — Usually the email that started the run.
- Optional: in Only files named, a pattern — *.pdf — Empty takes every attachment. * stands for any characters. Capitals do not matter.
- Choose Include pictures in the message body. Off (the default) leaves out pictures placed in the email's text, such as logos in a signature.
- Select Run this step. Output lists each file with its name, size and type, and Download.
Output
One item per file:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
name |
The file's name. |
size |
Its size in bytes. |
mimeType |
Its type, such as application/pdf. |
isInline |
Whether it was a picture in the body. |
attachmentId, messageId |
Where it came from. |
Each item also carries the file itself, as file. Drag it into a later step's Attachments, or use {{ $json.file }}. See Pass files between steps.
Good to know
- Files only. An attached email or a cloud link has no content to pass on and is left out.
- Up to 250 MB a file.
- An email with no matching attachment gives no items; the steps after it do not run for that email.
- Files are kept with the run and go when the run leaves the history.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| invoice.pdf is too large to pass between steps — the limit is 250 MB. | The file is too big. | Handle it in Outlook directly. |
| Outlook would not give the file: … | Microsoft refused the download. | Read the reason; reconnect if needed. |
| Outlook refused: … | Microsoft could not find the email. | Use the latest id — a moved email has a new one. |
