Two Slack steps mark a message without writing a new one: Add a reaction — Puts an emoji on a message — a tick once a lead is dealt with; and Pin a message — Pins a message to its channel.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.

Before you start

  • A Slack connection in this workspace — see Connect Slack.
  • The message's ts and channel from an earlier step — for example {{ steps.post_a_message.ts }}.
  • @Bizomate in the channel: type /invite @Bizomate there.

Steps

Add a reaction:

  1. Select +, then in Apps select Slack, then Add a reaction.
  2. In Connection, choose your Slack connection.
  3. In Channel, choose the channel the message is in.
  4. In Message, put the message's ts.
  5. In Reaction, type the emoji's name — The emoji's name, as Slack names it. For example white_check_mark. Colons around it are fine.
  6. Optional: set Post as me to Yes to react as yourself instead of the app — Off posts as the Bizomate app. On posts as you — you connect your own Slack account once. See Connect Slack.
  7. Select Run this step.

Pin a message:

  1. Select +, then Slack, then Pin a message.
  2. Choose the Connection and the Channel.
  3. In Message, put the message's ts.
  4. Select Run this step.

Output

Step Fields
Add a reaction channel, ts, reaction — the emoji's name.
Pin a message channel, ts, pinned (true).

Good to know

  • Pin a message acts as the Bizomate app. Add a reaction does too, unless Post as me is Yes.
  • The emoji's name is the one Slack shows when you hover over it in the emoji picker, without the colons — eyes, tada, or a custom emoji's name.
  • Runs once per item.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
That reaction is already on the message. The app reacted with it before. Nothing to do. For a step that may meet the same message twice, choose Carry on and pass the error along under If this step fails.
That message is already pinned. It was pinned before. Nothing to do.
Slack refused: invalid_name. Slack has no emoji by that name. Check the name in Slack's emoji picker.
The Slack account this step acts as was connected before Bizomate asked for this permission. Its owner selects Connect my Slack account again on the Slack connection, on Connections. Their own account was connected before Bizomate asked it for this. They select Connect my Slack account again in the connection's panel, and allow it in Slack.
Slack cannot find that message — check the message's ts from the earlier step. The ts or channel is wrong, or the message is gone. Check Message and Channel.
Bizomate is not in this channel. Type /invite @Bizomate in the channel, then run it again. The app is not in the channel. Invite it.
Reaction is empty when the step ran — … / Message is empty when the step ran — … The value came out empty. Check the values it reads.
