RSS · New feed item — When a new entry appears in an RSS or Atom feed — checks a feed on a schedule. Each entry it has not seen before starts a run.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan. No connection is needed.

Steps

  1. Open the workflow in the designer and open the trigger picker — Browse all triggers, or Change how it starts on an existing trigger.
  2. Under Developer, select New feed item. Or type RSS in Search triggers.
  3. In Feed address, give the feed's own address — https://www.consulace.com/blog/feed.
  4. Under Checks, choose Every 5 minutes or Every 15 minutes.
  5. Open the Output tab and select Fetch a sample. The newest entry comes in, and Test run starts with it.
  6. Add the steps, test, then Publish.

What happens next

  • The first check after publishing only notes what is in the feed. Entries already there never start a run.
  • Each new entry starts one run, oldest first, with {{ trigger.title }}, {{ trigger.link }}, {{ trigger.publishedAt }}, {{ trigger.author }}, {{ trigger.summary }}, {{ trigger.content }} and, for a podcast, {{ trigger.enclosure.url }}.
  • New means an id not seen before — the entry's guid, or its link. An entry the site edits keeps its id and does not start a run again.
  • A check that finds nothing starts no run and costs nothing.

Good to know

  • Every 5 minutes is for paid plans. On Free it checks every 15 minutes whatever is chosen.
  • A site that changes its entries' ids — moving to a new address, say — makes its recent entries look new once.
  • Runs start in Production and count in the month's allowance.

Not checking since 10:45 with That address gives a web page or other document, not an RSS or Atom feed. The site moved or removed its feed. Find the new feed address, then Check now. See When an app trigger stops checking.
