Stripe · Cancel a subscription — Ends a subscription now, or when its period ends — stops a customer's recurring billing in Stripe.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan. Viewers see the step's settings but cannot change them.
Before you start
- A Stripe connection — see Connect Stripe.
- The subscription's id, starting
sub_— for example from the trigger Subscription created, as{{ trigger.id }}.
Steps
- Select +. In the step picker, open Apps, select Stripe, then Cancel a subscription.
- In Connection, choose your Stripe connection.
- In Subscription, the subscription's id —
sub_…. - At the end of the period is on by default: the customer keeps what they paid for until the period ends, and is not charged again. Switch it off to end it now — Off: it ends now.
- Select Run this step.
Output
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
id |
The subscription's id. |
status |
active while it runs to the period's end; canceled when it ended now. |
cancelAtPeriodEnd |
true when it ends at the period's end. |
endsAt |
When the current period ends, in UTC. |
Good to know
- Ending now does not refund the part of the period already paid. Use Create a refund for that — see Refund or retrieve a Stripe payment.
- When it ends, Stripe sends Subscription cancelled — see Start a workflow from Stripe payment events.
- Runs once per item.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription is empty when the step ran — … | Subscription reads a value that came out empty. | Check the value it reads. |
| Stripe refused: … | Stripe would not cancel it, in its own words — no such subscription, already cancelled, or in the other mode. | Check the id and the connection's mode. |
