Shopify · Update inventory — Sets or adjusts a variant's stock at a location — changes how many of a variant your store has available at one of its locations. Use it to set stock after a count, or to add or take away a number when goods arrive or leave another way.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan. Viewers see the step's settings but cannot change them.

Before you start

  • A Shopify connection with the inventory and products permissions — see Connect Shopify.
  • The variant's id. Find products gives it as variantId, and Shopify · Product updated as well — see Create, update or find Shopify products.
  • Stock tracking switched on for the variant in Shopify (Track quantity on the product).

Steps

  1. Select + where the step should go. In the step picker, open Apps, select Shopify, then Update inventory.
  2. In Connection, choose your Shopify connection.
  3. In Location, choose where the stock is. The list reads Loading your locations… first, then shows each active location with its city — Bengaluru warehouse · Bengaluru. To use a location id from an earlier step, select Use a value.
  4. In Variant, the variant's id — The variant's id — from Find products (variantId). For example {{ $json.variantId }}.
  5. In Change, choose Set to or Add or take away.
  6. In Quantity, a whole number — 25. With Add or take away, a minus takes away: -3.
  7. Select Run this step to try it.

Output

Field What it is
inventoryItemId The variant's inventory item in Shopify.
locationId The location, as chosen.
available How many are available there now.
sku The variant's SKU.

Good to know

  • Set to replaces the number at that location; Add or take away changes it by the quantity, so two runs at the same time both count.
  • One location at a time. Stock at other locations is not changed.
  • The list shows active locations only. A location switched off in Shopify is not offered.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Quantity is not a whole number. Quantity has a decimal or a word in it. Use a whole number, with a minus to take away.
That variant has no inventory item — is stock tracked for it in Shopify? Shopify keeps no stock for the variant. Tick Track quantity on the product in Shopify.
Shopify refused: Not Found. No variant has that id — often a product's id given instead. Use variantId, not id.
Nothing to pick — "This store has no active location. Add one in Shopify › Settings › Locations, then Refresh." The store has no location. Add one in Shopify, then Refresh.
Could not load the locations Shopify did not give the list, in its own words. "What you set here is kept." Select Try again, or Reconnect if offered.
Shopify refused: … saying the item is not stocked at the location The variant is not stocked at that location. Stock it there in Shopify first, or choose another location.
