A Perplexity connection lets the Perplexity step answer questions with a live web search, citing its sources, using your company's own API key. Bizomate does not pay for or resell AI use: Perplexity bills your account, and each run's output shows what it used.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan — Perplexity is not a premium connection. Viewers see the connection but cannot add or change it.
On Perplexity's side, someone who can manage the account's API settings.
Before you start
Perplexity's API needs credit on the account, added under API in Perplexity's settings, before a key works.
Steps
In Perplexity, make the key:
- Sign in at perplexity.ai and open your account's API settings.
- Add credit if the account has none.
- Select Generate (or Create key) and copy the key. It starts with
pplx-.
In Bizomate, add the connection:
- Select Connections in the bar at the top, then + Add connection.
- Under AI, select Perplexity. It reads "Stored credential".
- In Connection name, type a name — for example Consulace Perplexity.
- Paste the key in API key. "Stored encrypted. It is never shown again after you save."
- Optional: if the key has an end date, choose it in This key expires on · optional.
- Leave Test the connection before saving ticked. Perplexity has no list of models to read, so the test asks it a one-word question.
- Select Save connection. The button reads Testing, then the dialog closes.
The toast "Connection added" says "“Consulace Perplexity” is ready. Every workflow in this workspace can use it."
What happens next
- Test in the connection's panel answers Reached Perplexity · sonar answered. Each test is a real question, so it costs a fraction of a cent on your Perplexity account.
- In the designer, the Ask with web search step lists it under Connection.
Good to know
- To use a new key: open the connection's panel and select Replace key, paste the new key and select Replace key. The old one is used until then. With Test the connection before saving ticked, nothing changes if Perplexity refuses it. The toast says "Key replaced".
- When the credit runs out, steps fail until it is topped up. Perplexity can top up automatically; set that in Perplexity.
