A Notion connection lets workflows add and update database items, find items, write pages, read them and comment on them — and start a run when a database item is added or changed. It connects with the internal integration secret of an integration you make in Notion. The integration sees only the pages and databases you share with it.
Who can do this
- In Bizomate: workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan — Notion is not a premium connection. Viewers see the connection but cannot add or change it.
- In Notion: a Workspace owner makes the integration. Anyone with full access to a page can then share that page with it.
Steps
In Notion, make the integration:
- Sign in to Notion and go to notion.so/my-integrations.
- Select New integration.
- In Name, type a name — for example Bizomate. In Associated workspace, choose the workspace — Consulace. Leave Type as Internal.
- Select Save.
- On Capabilities, tick Read content, Update content and Insert content. Tick Insert comments if a workflow will add comments, and Read user information including email addresses if a step will set a Person property by email. Save the changes.
- On Configuration, select Show beside Internal Integration Secret, then Copy. It starts
ntn_.
Share each page or database with it:
- Open the database or page in Notion — for example the Client onboarding database.
- Select the ••• menu at the top right, then Connections, and choose Bizomate. Confirm when Notion asks.
- Repeat for every database and parent page a workflow will use. Sharing a page shares the pages inside it too.
In Bizomate, add the connection:
- Select Connections in the bar at the top, then + Add connection.
- Under Productivity, select Notion. It reads "Stored credential".
- In Connection name, type a name — for example Consulace Notion.
- Paste the secret in Internal integration secret — placeholder
ntn_…. Make an integration at notion.so/my-integrations and copy its Internal Integration Secret. Share each page or database with the integration — Notion shows nothing else to it. - Optional: in This token expires on · optional, a date — If the service gave the key an end date. The workspace’s admins are reminded 30, 7 and 1 days before. A Notion secret has no end date of its own, so this is usually left empty.
- Leave Test the connection before saving ticked. Bizomate asks Notion which integration and workspace the secret belongs to before keeping it.
- Select Save connection. The button reads Testing while Notion is asked.
The toast "Connection added" says what Notion answered — for example "“Consulace Notion” is ready. Reached Bizomate · Notion workspace Consulace."
What happens next
- The connection appears under Productivity. Its panel shows Replace token, Test and Revoke — never the secret. Stored encrypted. Secret fields are never shown again after you save.
- Test answers with the integration's name and the Notion workspace — the toast "“Consulace Notion” works" says Reached Bizomate · Notion workspace Consulace.
- Notion steps and triggers list it under Connection. Their Database and Page lists show only what you shared with the integration — pages marked Page or Database item.
Good to know
- Notion shows the integration nothing you have not shared. A database missing from the list has not been shared — share it, then select Refresh on the list.
- The secret does not expire on its own. If someone selects Refresh on the secret in Notion, the old one stops working: open the connection's panel, select Replace token, paste the new secret and select Replace token. The old one is used until then. The toast "Token replaced" says "Workflows that use “Consulace Notion” use the new key from their next run."
- Everything the steps do is shown in Notion as done by the integration — Bizomate — not by a person.
- Signing in with Notion instead of a secret is not offered yet; the secret is the only way to connect. When it comes, it also lets Notion triggers start instantly.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Notion refused it — "Notion refused: API token is invalid. Check the connection's details on Connections. Nothing was saved." | The secret was mistyped or refreshed, or the integration was deleted. | Copy the secret again from the integration's Configuration page. |
| "Fill in Internal integration secret." | The box is empty. | Paste the secret. |
| Nothing to pick — "Notion shows the integration no database. Open the database in Notion, choose ••• › Connections and add the integration, then Refresh." | Nothing is shared with the integration. | Share it (above), then select Refresh. |
| "Notion refused: … Check the connection's details on Connections." (in a run) | The secret stopped working. | Replace token with a new secret. |
| "Notion refused: Could not find page with ID: …" (in a run) | The page was unshared, or the integration lacks a capability the step needs. Notion's own sentence says to share it. | Share the page again, or tick the capability in Notion. |
| "Could not reach Notion: …" or "Notion did not answer within 30 seconds." | Notion could not be reached. | Try again in a few minutes. |
