Limit — Keeps the first or last items and drops the rest — passes on only a number of items. After Sort, it gives the top ten customers by spend, or the five newest orders. It also keeps a workflow from sending a hundred messages when you meant one.
Who can do this
Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.
Steps
- Select + after the items. In the step picker, open Data and select Limit.
- In Keep, type How many items — 10 unless you change it.
- In From the, keep Start for the first items or choose End for the last.
- Select Run this step, then check Output.
Output
The items kept, unchanged and in their order, with any files they carry.
Good to know
- It runs once for all the items that reach it. Inside a loop it limits that batch only.
- Fewer items than the number all go through; nothing is added. Keep set to 0 drops every item.
- Use Sort first to choose which items are first — Limit keeps them in the order they arrive.
- Dropped items are not an error. They do not go anywhere else; to send them down another path, use Filter or IF.
If something goes wrong
| What the run says | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Keep “…” is not a whole number from 0 to 1,000,000. | Keep is empty, has a fraction, or is more than 1,000,000. | Type a whole number, such as 10. |
