A company has one owner — the only person who can change its plan and the card. If the owner leaves without handing the company on, the company has no owner: workflows keep running, but nobody can pay or change the plan. Any admin of the company can take ownership.

Who can do this

  • Company role: Admin. Admins see Take ownership on Plan and billing while the company has no owner.
  • Members see This company has no owner — ask an admin to take ownership. instead, with no button.
  • Your account needs a second step set up — a passkey or an authenticator app — to confirm it's you.

Before you start

The company must have no owner. When it has one, there is nothing to take: the owner hands the company on with an offer instead. See Transfer company ownership.

Steps

  1. Select your avatar at the top right, then Settings, and under Company select Plan and billing. Or select Take ownership in the email Northwind Logistics has no account owner, which opens the same page at the right card.
  2. At the top, a banner says No owner. Northwind Logistics has no owner. An admin needs to take ownership before the plan or the card can change. Under the current plan, the line reads Owner: none.
  3. Find the card This company has no owner — Only the owner can change the plan or the card, so nobody can pay or change the plan until someone takes ownership. Any admin can. Workflows keep running meanwhile.
  4. Select Take ownership. A page opens: Take ownership of Northwind Logistics? — You become the owner — the only person who can change the plan and the card, and offer ownership to someone else. Every admin is emailed. You stay a member of every workspace you are in. To stop here, select Cancel; nothing changes.
  5. Confirm it's you. The page asks for your passkey or authenticator code — whichever you have set up:
    • With a passkey: select Take ownership with your passkey, then use your face, fingerprint or screen lock.
    • With an authenticator app: in Authenticator code, type the six-digit code it shows now, then select Take ownership. The button shows Taking ownership.
  6. Plan and billing opens again with you as the owner, and a message says You're now the owner of Northwind Logistics — We've emailed every admin. The This company has no owner card is gone.

What happens next

  • You are the owner. You can change the plan and the card, edit the company's details, and offer ownership to someone else later. See Transfer company ownership.
  • Your workspaces do not change. You stay in every workspace you were in, with the same workspace role.
  • Every other admin is emailed Asha Raghunathan is now the owner of Northwind Logistics — that you took ownership, when (in their own time zone), and that the company had no owner. It tells them to talk to you, or to Bizomate support from the help chat, if they did not expect it.
  • The reminder clears. The … has no owner notice leaves every admin's notification centre.

Good to know

  • How a company is told it has no owner. Once a day Bizomate checks every company. The first time it finds one with people in it but no owner, it emails every admin … has no account owner — Any admin can take ownership on Plan and billing. If nobody does, the subscription will lapse when it next renews and workflows will pause. — and puts … has no owner in each admin's notification centre: Nobody can change the plan or the card until someone takes ownership. Everything keeps running for now. If the company has no admins, everyone in it gets them.
  • The email comes once, when the company is first found without an owner — not every day.
  • Nothing stops meanwhile. Workflows keep running and everyone keeps working. Only the plan, the card and renewing the subscription wait for an owner.
  • Talk to the other admins first. The email goes to every admin, so agree who takes it on.
  • Two admins at once. If two admins confirm at nearly the same time, the first one becomes the owner. The other is told who was quicker, and nothing changes for them.
  • A company with nobody in it at all is different: there is nobody to take ownership, and Bizomate suspends it after 30 days. Nothing is deleted.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
No Take ownership on Plan and billing The company has an owner, or you are a member, not an admin. If it has an owner, ask them to offer you ownership. If you are a member, ask an admin.
This company has no owner — ask an admin to take ownership. You are a member of the company, not an admin. Ask one of the company's admins to take ownership.
Only an admin can take ownership You opened the confirm page as a member. Select Back to Plan and billing and ask an admin.
Someone was quicker — Rohan Mehta took ownership a moment ago, so you weren't made owner. Another admin confirmed first. Only one person can be the owner. Nothing to do. Talk to them if you need the plan changed.
Nothing to take — This company has an owner, so there is nothing to take. The company already has an owner. Select Back to Plan and billing. To become the owner, ask them to offer you ownership.
That code isn't right. Check your authenticator and enter the code it shows now. The code was mistyped or had already changed. Enter the code your authenticator shows now.
Your passkey didn't confirm it. The passkey prompt was cancelled, or a different account's passkey was used. Try again, or use your authenticator code. If you have lost both, see If you have lost access to your two-factor.
Your account has no second step set up, so this can't be confirmed. You have no passkey or authenticator app. Set one up first — see Manage your two-factor methods — then take ownership.
You weren't made owner, because Bizomate couldn't finish. Try again. Something failed while making the change. Nothing changed. Try again. If it fails twice, open a ticket from Help.
