Six FTP / SFTP steps work with files on a server, one step for each thing you do:

  • Upload a file — Puts a file from an earlier step on the server.
  • Download a file — Brings a file from the server, for the steps after.
  • List a folder — The files in a folder — the next steps run once for each.
  • Delete a file — Removes a file from the server.
  • Rename or move a file — Gives a file a new name or folder.
  • Create a folder — Makes a folder, and any folders above it that are missing.

In the step picker they are under Developer. Changes data marks Upload, Rename or move and Create a folder; Deletes data marks Delete a file.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan.

Before you start

An FTP / SFTP connection in this workspace, tested once so an SFTP server's key is kept — see Connect an FTP or SFTP server.

Steps

  1. Select +, then in Apps select FTP / SFTP, or search SFTP. Choose the step.
  2. Choose the Connection.
  3. Fill in the step. Paths start at the server's top folder — /incoming/orders.csv:
    • Upload a file — Folder (empty is the top folder), Name (empty keeps the file's own name), the File from an earlier step, and Replace a file already there to overwrite.
    • Download a file — Path of the file.
    • List a folder — Folder, optional Names like — *.csv — and Include folders.
    • Delete a file — Path. A deleted file cannot be brought back.
    • Rename or move a file — Path and New path — /done/orders.csv. The new folder must be there already.
    • Create a folder — Folder — /done/2026-10.
  4. Select Run this step, then check Output.

Output

Step Fields
Upload a file name, path, size in bytes.
Download a file name, path, size, modifiedAt — and the file itself, for the steps after: drop it into an attachment or an upload.
List a folder One item per file — name, path, size, modifiedAt, isFolder — and the next steps run once for each.
Delete a file path, deleted — false when there was no file there.
Rename or move a file path (the new one), previousPath.
Create a folder path.

Good to know

  • Paths never climb out. A path with .. is refused; give the full path from the top folder.
  • Download, then Upload copies a file between servers, or from a server into email, Google Drive or Supabase storage.
  • List a folder, then Download each file processes a whole drop folder; add Rename or move to file each one away once done.
  • Delete a file deletes files only. A folder is refused.
  • 15 seconds to connect, 30 seconds for each reply. Each step runs once per item.

If something goes wrong

What the run says Why What to do
The server's key changed since this connection was saved. If you expected that, test the connection again to accept the new key. The SFTP server shows a different key from the one kept. If the change is expected, select Test on the connection; otherwise ask the server's owner.
Bizomate has not kept this server's key yet. Test the connection once on Connections to keep it. The connection was saved without a test. Select Test on the connection.
… is already there. Tick Replace a file already there to overwrite it. A file with that name exists. Tick the box, or choose another name.
There is no file at … The path is wrong, or the file has gone. Check the path.
“…” climbs up with .., which is not taken. Give the full path from the top. The path has ... Write the full path.
The server says the user may not do that there. The user lacks the right in that folder. Ask the server's owner for the right.
File is empty. Choose a file from an earlier step. File is not set on Upload. Choose a file.
