An Intercom connection lets the Intercom steps keep contacts up to date, reply to and manage conversations, create tickets and send messages, and lets the Intercom triggers check for new and closed conversations and new contacts. It connects with an access token from an app you make in Intercom's Developer Hub, and the region your Intercom workspace is hosted in.
Who can do this
- In Bizomate: workspace Admins and Editors. Viewers see the connection but cannot add or change it.
- In Intercom: a teammate who can make apps in the Developer Hub — usually an Intercom admin.
- Plan: Intercom is a premium connection, marked with a diamond. You can add it and test its steps on any plan; publishing a workflow that uses it needs Starter, Pro or Enterprise.
Before you start
Know your Intercom workspace's region — United States, Europe or Australia. If you sign in at app.eu.intercom.com, it is Europe; at app.au.intercom.com, Australia; otherwise the United States.
Steps
In Intercom, make the token:
- Sign in to Intercom and open the Developer Hub (developers.intercom.com, Your apps).
- Select New app, name it Bizomate, choose your Intercom workspace, and select Create app.
- On the app's Authentication page, copy the Access token.
In Bizomate, add the connection:
- Select Connections in the bar at the top, then + Add connection.
- Under Support, select Intercom.
- In Connection name, type a name — for example Consulace Intercom.
- Choose the Region — United States (US), Europe (EU) or Australia (AU). United States (US) is chosen to begin with.
- Paste the token in Access token.
- Leave Test the connection before saving ticked.
- Select Save connection. It reads Testing while Intercom is asked which workspace and admin the token belongs to.
The toast "Connection added" says "“Consulace Intercom” is ready. Every workflow in this workspace can use it."
What happens next
- The connection appears under Support. Its panel shows Test, Revoke and the masked token's ending, never the token.
- Test answers with the admin and the Intercom workspace — Reached Asha Raghunathan · Intercom workspace Consulace (US).
- The Intercom steps and triggers list it under Connection, and load your admins, teams, tags and contact attributes from Intercom.
Good to know
- On the Free plan the window notes: "Intercom is on paid plans. You can add it and test the steps that use it now; publishing a workflow that uses it asks for a paid plan."
- The wrong region means Intercom does not know the token. Choose the region your workspace is in.
- The token is the app's. It stays the same until you delete the app or rotate the token in the Developer Hub; then select Replace token on the connection.
- Signing in with Intercom, instead of a token, is planned for later.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Intercom refused the connection: … Reconnect it, or replace the token. Nothing was saved." | The token is mistyped or rotated, or the region is wrong. | Check the region, then copy the token again. |
| "Could not reach Intercom: …" | Intercom did not answer. | Try again in a few minutes. |
| "Intercom did not answer within 30 seconds." | Intercom was slow. | Try again. |
| "Enter the credential." | Access token is empty. | Paste the token. |
