Steps
Create an issue:
- Select + where the step should go. In the step picker, open Apps, select Jira, then Create an issue. Or search Jira.
- In Connection, choose your Jira connection.
- In Project, choose the project — Projects you can see in Jira. For example Consulace Ops · CON.
- In Issue type, choose the type — Task. Sub-task types are marked Sub-task.
- In Summary, type the summary — Set up Northwind Logistics SSO.

- Assignee — someone on the site, Asha Raghunathan · asha@consulace.com. Or an email from an earlier step.
- Priority — one of the site's priorities.
- Labels — Separate several with commas. A Jira label has no spaces.
- Components — Component names, separated with commas.
- Other fields — the issue type's own fields, required ones first, each with what it takes — number, choice — Low, Medium, High, person — email or account id, sprint id, with · required on those Jira needs. The issue type's own fields, required ones first. A person takes an email or account id, a sprint its id, a date 2026-10-09.
- Select Run this step to try it. This opens a real issue.
Update an issue:
- In Issue, the issue's key — The issue's key. For example CON-142, or the
keyfrom the step that created or found it. - Fill in only what should change — Summary, Description (Replaces the description. Empty leaves it.), Assignee (Empty leaves it. - In Link type, choose the type — each shows its two ways, Blocks · blocks / is blocked by. Read as Issue, the type's outward words, then Linked issue — CON-142 blocks CON-120.
- In Linked issue, the second key — CON-120.
Every list offers Use a value above it, to give a name, email or id from an earlier step instead; Choose from the list goes back.
Output
| Step | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Create an issue, Update an issue, Transition an issue, Assign an issue, Get an issue | The issue — key, id, url, summary, description (plain text), status, issueType, priority, assignee, assigneeEmail, reporter, labels, components, projectKey, createdAt, updatedAt, and each other field by its name, such as Story Points. |
| Find issues | count, issues (each with the keys above) and first. |
| Add a comment | The comment's id, issueKey and text. |
| Add an attachment | The attachment's id, name, size, url and issueKey — one item for each file. |
| Link issues | linked (true), fromKey, toKey and linkType. |
Other fields come out as a person reads them: a choice by its value, a person or version by name, rich text as plain text.
Good to know
- Find issues gives one item, with
count, the list ofissuesand thefirst, most recently updated first. When nothing matches, the run goes down When nothing is found instead, withfoundset to false — see When a Find step finds nothing. - Find issues needs something to search by. Jira will not search every issue at once, so give JQL or at least one field.
- The fields come from Jira for the project and issue type you choose, so they match your site's screens. After an admin changes them, select Refresh on Other fields.
- A transition is not a status. Jira allows only the moves its workflow has from the issue's current status, so the list changes from one issue to the next.
- Description and comments are plain text. Line breaks are kept; a blank line starts a new paragraph. Coming out, Jira's formatting is turned back into plain text — lists as
-lines, mentions by name. - Updated since is read in the time zone of the person the connection signs in as, as Jira reads JQL.
- On the Free plan, publishing stops with "“Create an issue” needs a paid plan. Change the plan, or remove it and publish the rest." Tests work on any plan.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Issue “…” is not an issue key, like CON-142. | Issue came out as something else. | Check the value it reads. |
| Give a new value for at least one field. | Update an issue has nothing filled in. | Fill in what should change. |
| CON-142 cannot move by “Done” from where it is now — its transitions are: Start progress, Stop. | The issue's status has no such move. | Use a transition it names, or move it through the steps Jira's workflow allows. |
| Give a JQL query, or at least one of Project, Status, Assignee and Updated since — Jira will not search every issue at once. | Find issues has nothing to search by. | Fill in JQL or a field. |
| Jira has nobody matching “…” on consulace.atlassian.net. or Several people on consulace.atlassian.net match “…”. Choose the person from the list instead. | The assignee could not be told from the email or name. | Choose the person from the list, or give their exact email. |
| Jira cannot set “Sprint” here — it is not on this issue type's screen. Refresh the fields and choose again. | The field is not on the screen for that project and type. | Select Refresh on Other fields, or ask a Jira admin to add it to the screen. |
| Story Points needs a number — “…” is not one. | A value does not fit its field. | Give a value of that type. |
| CON has no issue type named “Story”. | The issue type from an earlier step is not one of the project's. | Choose the type from the list. |
| "Jira refused: summary: You must specify a summary of the issue." | A required field is empty — Jira names it. | Fill it in; required fields are listed first under Other fields. |
| "Jira refused: … Check the connection's details on Connections." | The token has expired, or your account cannot do that in the project. | Replace the token, or ask a Jira admin for permission. |
| "Jira refused: Error in the JQL Query: …" | The JQL is not valid — a misspelt field or a missing quote. | Try it in Jira's own search first. |
| "Could not reach Jira: …" or "Jira did not answer within 30 seconds." | Jira could not be reached. | The step can try again — see Make a step try again when it fails. |
