Seven Notion steps work with the databases and pages you have shared with your integration:

  • Notion · Create a database item — Adds an item to a Notion database, a value for each property you fill in.
  • Notion · Update a database item — Changes the properties you fill in on a database item, or archives it.
  • Notion · Find database items — The items of a database that match, in the order you choose.
  • Notion · Create a page — Adds a page inside another page, with a title and content.
  • Notion · Append to a page — Adds paragraphs, headings, to-dos, bullets or code to the end of a page.
  • Notion · Get a page — A page's properties and its content as plain text.
  • Notion · Add a comment — Comments on a page or database item.

Every step except Find database items and Get a page is tagged Changes data.

Who can do this

Workspace Admins and Editors, on every plan. Viewers see the steps' settings but cannot change them.

Before you start

A Notion connection in this workspace — see Connect Notion — and the database or page shared with its integration in Notion.

Steps

Create a database item:

  1. Select + where the step should go. In the step picker, open Apps, select Notion, then Create a database item. Or search Notion.
  2. In Connection, choose your Notion connection.
  3. In Database, choose the database — Databases shared with the integration. For example Client onboarding · Database. The list reads Loading your databases… first.
  4. Under Properties, each row is one of the database's properties, with its type and what a value looks like — Select · an option's name, Date · 2026-10-09 or 2026-10-09T17:00:00Z, Person · emails or Notion user ids, separated with commas. The title property comes first. Fill in the ones you need — for example Name: Onboard Northwind Logistics. Read from the database. Only the properties you fill in are set; one an earlier step leaves empty is left as it is.
  5. Optional: in Page content, the text that goes inside the item's page — Optional text for the item's page. Simple Markdown works: # headings, - bullets, [ ] to-dos, ``` for code.
  6. Select Run this step to try it. This adds a real item.

Update a database item:

  1. In the step picker, under Notion, select Update a database item, and choose the Connection.
  2. In Item id, the item's id — The item's id, or its Notion link. Usually the id from the step that created it, or the first item's id from Find database items.
  3. Optional: in Database, choose its database — Only to list its properties below — the item's own database is the one used.
  4. Under Properties, fill in only what should change — Only the properties you fill in change.
  5. To archive the item, turn on Archive — Moves the item to Notion's trash, where it can be restored.
  6. Select Run this step to try it.

Find database items:

  1. In the step picker, under Notion, select Find database items, and choose the Connection and Database.
  2. Optional: under Where, add a row for each condition — a property, then the value it must have, such as Status and In progress. A property and the value it must equal — for Multi-select, Person and Relation, one it must contain. An empty value finds the items where it is empty. None: every item, up to Most.
  3. With more than one row, choose under Match: All of them (the default) or Any of them.
  4. Optional: in Sort by, choose Created time, Last edited time or a property, and under Order, Ascending or Descending.
  5. In Most, how many items at most — Items past this are left out, and the output says so. Up to 1,000. It starts at 100.
  6. Select Run this step to try it.

Create a page:

  1. In the step picker, under Notion, select Create a page, and choose the Connection.
  2. In Parent page, choose the page it goes inside — Pages shared with the integration.
  3. In Title, type the title — for example Northwind Logistics kickoff notes.
  4. Optional: in Content, the page's text — Simple Markdown works: # headings, - bullets, [ ] to-dos, ``` for code.

Append to a page, Get a page, Add a comment:

  1. In the step picker, under Notion, select the step, and choose the Connection.
  2. In Page, choose the page — Pages shared with the integration — a database item is a page too.
  3. For Append to a page, type the Content — Simple Markdown works: # headings, - bullets, [ ] to-dos, ``` for code. A blank line starts a new paragraph. For Add a comment, type the Comment — for example Kickoff call booked with Northwind Logistics for Monday.

Every list offers Use a value above it, to give an id or link from an earlier step instead; Choose from the list goes back.

Output

Step What it gives
Create a database item, Update a database item The item — id, url, createdAt, updatedAt, archived, and each property by its name, such as Status or Owner.
Find database items count, items (each with the keys above) and first.
Create a page, Append to a page The page's id, title and url.
Get a page id, url, createdAt, updatedAt, archived, each property by its name, title, and content — the page's text.
Add a comment The comment's id, pageId and text.

Properties come out by their type: text as text, a number or checkbox as itself, Select and Status by the option's name, Multi-select and Files & media as lists, a date as 2026-10-09 or 2026-10-09T09:15:00Z (UTC), people as their names separated with commas, a Relation as a list of page ids, a formula or rollup as what it works out to.

Good to know

  • Find database items gives one item, with count, the list of items and the first. When nothing matches, the run goes down When nothing is found instead, with found set to false — see When a Find step finds nothing. When more items match than Most, the output carries note — Only the first 100 items are kept.
  • The properties come from the database when you choose it. After you add a property in Notion, select Refresh on Properties to see it.
  • Properties Notion works out are not offered — Formula, Rollup, Created time, Created by, Last edited time, Last edited by and ID. You can still sort by them.
  • Values are turned into each property's type. A number must be a number and a checkbox true or false. A Select option Notion does not have yet is added; a Status must be one the database has. A Person takes an email, a name or a Notion user id; finding people by email needs the integration's Read user information including email addresses capability. Files & media take links.
  • Simple Markdown becomes Notion blocks: #, ## and ### headings, - or * bullets, 1. numbered items, [ ] and [x] to-dos, > quotes and ``` code fences. Lines next to each other make one paragraph. Bold, italics and links stay as plain text.
  • Archiving is not deleting. An archived item goes to Notion's trash and can be restored there.
  • Get a page reads text. It reads up to 1,000 blocks, two levels deep, written back as the same Markdown. A page inside the page is named, not read; images and embeds are left out.
  • Each item runs the step once. Ten items add ten database items.

If something goes wrong

What you see Why What to do
Nothing to pick — "Notion shows the integration no database. Open the database in Notion, choose ••• › Connections and add the integration, then Refresh." (or "… no page …") Nothing is shared with the integration. Share the database or page in Notion, then Refresh.
Give a new value for at least one property, or turn on Archive. Update a database item has nothing to change. Fill in a property, or turn on Archive.
That page is not in a database, so it has no properties to set. Use Append to a page to add to it. Item id names a plain page. Use an item of a database, or Append to a page.
Item id “…” is not a Notion id or link. The id came out as something else. Check the value the field reads.
Client onboarding has no property named “Stage”. Refresh the properties and choose again. The property was renamed or removed in Notion. Select Refresh on Properties and fill it in again.
Days open is worked out by Notion (Formula) and cannot be set. Leave it empty. A value was given for a property Notion works out. Leave it empty.
Amount is a number in Notion, and “twelve” is not one. — or the same for a date or checkbox The value does not fit the property's type. Give a value of that type.
Nobody in the Notion workspace has the email or name “…” for Owner. Give their email or Notion user id — and the integration needs “Read user information including email addresses”. The person is not in the Notion workspace, or the capability is not ticked. Check the email, or tick the capability in Notion.
Finding by … is not something this step does. Filter by another property, or check it with a Condition after this step. Where names a property Notion cannot filter on this way. Filter by another property, then an IF step.
"Notion refused: Could not find page with ID: …" The item or page was unshared, or the integration lacks the capability (insert, update or comment). Share it again, or tick the capability in Notion.
"Could not reach Notion: …" or "Notion did not answer within 30 seconds." Notion could not be reached. The step can try again — see Make a step try again when it fails.
